BanQu CEO Ashish Gadnis spoke at a Singularity University summit, in which he talked about the importance of blockchain in lifting people out of poverty.

BanQu co-founder and CEO Ashish Gadnis spoke at a Singularity University summit on the topic of financial mobility. Gadnis explained how an essential step in helping disadvantaged people climb out of poverty is to allow them access to their own financial records.

In Gadnis’ words:

I was just in Southeast Asia, working with some of the poorest farmers in the world. And if you’re a poor farmer who’s providing grain or coffee or whatever in a large supply chain, at the end of the day, nobody really knows the farmer… And this is kind of where technology can matter, because technologies like blockchain, the way we use it, allow the farmer to participate equally in the transaction so that they are actually known… If you can own your data, you’re going to be more responsible financially.
